Book Review: The Death of the Angry Black Woman by Jameliah Young-Mitchell

I really enjoyed reading The Death of  The Angry Black Woman by Jameliah Young-Mitchelle.  This was an eye-opener as to why some women are angry.  I like how she shared her own story from childhood and how it affected her adult life and relationships.  This was a worthy read. I recommend you check out this book.

Anger can get the best of many women, but when anger erupts into rage and leads to shouting, fighting, and name-calling, it's time to look within and make a change. The Death of the Angry Black Woman boldly acknowledges stereotypes faced by women in the black community and uncovers the seeds that lead many to live anger-filled lives. Instilled with Biblical scripture and jaw-dropping honesty, this debut book from Pastor Jameliah Young-Mitchell, the voice behind the popular Car Chronicles Movement, will empower you to bury your anger, reject false labels, and embrace the new you.

Book Review- Loving My Daddy To Death by Barbara Joe Williams

I enjoyed reading this novella by Babarba Joe Williams titled Loving My Dadddy to Death.  This is my first time reading a story by this author and I am now a fan.  This story drew me in and I could not put it down.  It's good from start to finish,.  This little girl Samantha had me talking back to the book as if I was there with her in 1972.  The plot twist that the author set in motion was absolutely phenomenal.  I would have never guessed the ending of this story.  I highly recommend readers pick up this book.

Introduction:
My name is Samantha Denise Holloway. I’m sixty years old today. I grew up in a small southern town with my parents and younger brother. When I was a little girl, I loved my daddy to death. He was a kind and gentle man who gave me everything I wanted. However, after he went off to the war in the sixties and came back with a head injury, he started changing a little bit every day. He started drinking, gambling, and running the streets on the weekends like a single man.  Once my brother was old enough to start walking and talking, Daddy started beating on him. Daddy claimed he was training my little brother how to survive a colored man’s life and a white man’s war. When Mama tried to reason with him, he started beating on her too. But I was never afraid of him, and he never laid a finger on me. I was his precious princess.
The more Daddy seemed to love me, the more I grew to hate him until I couldn’t take it anymore. Now I can’t remember the exact moment I recognized my hatred for my own father. But week after week of seeing him beating on my mother and young brother left me emotionally drained. I found myself feeling more and more disdain for Daddy and his evil ways. The father I had once loved and cherished was gone; lost in the war six years ago. He came back a changed man, and it wasn’t for the better. I had to do something to save my family, or I would soon be the only one living with the monster he had become. I’m not proud of it, but this is the story of how I killed my daddy at the age of twelve in November of 1972. I had to save my mother and brother. I loved my daddy. And I loved him even more after his death. Regardless of what anyone is thinking about me, here’s my story . . .

And he’s definitely interested in Renee. While Bradsen feels it's love at first sight, she pushes him away. After returning home from the event, desperation sets in. During her weeks of worry, Renee has a chance encounter with Bradsen. She feels an attraction but is conflicted. How can she start to build a connection with him when her secret love has vanished without a trace? Was he injured? Was he murdered? Where was he?

Book Review

This story had me hooked to the characters  Renee, Sabrina, Kayron, and the chocolate twins Bradsen & Jacksen unravel a plot that will keep you turning pages. I could not put the book down until I finished. I drew my imagination into the story and I found myself picking sides and getting mad at Renee at times but then I found myself cheering for her.

I enjoyed how descriptive the author was to give her readers a visual as if they were standing in the room.  When she first opens up the story with Renee & Kayron one will find themselves smiling.  As you read on, you can imagine the characters and their action as if you are watching a movie.  A four year love affair that has an abrupt halt.  I found myself cheering for Bradsen to be with Renee who were my favorite characters along with Sabina.

After the story unfolds and rattles you, readers can walk away with some life lessons and nuggets of wisdom to live by.  It's a story that can actually happen that allows you as a reader to relate to and even have sympathy for.  The ending had me shocked, nice twist Tesa.  I can't wait to read the next book in the series Threads That Mend to see what happens with my favorite characters Renee, Bradsen, and Sabrina.

Germaine just may have a second chance at love or finally free herself from the memories of a long time ago.

Review

I fell in love with this story of true love finding its way back to each other. The author did an amazing job capturing my emotions throughout the journey with Germaine, Angelo, and Lisa. There were times I was sitting here smiling, crying, and laughing. My favorite character in the story was Germaine Laundry and my least two favorites in the story were Angelo and Donna.  Angelo redeemed himself as the story unwind but Donna was the typical vixen in the story that you wish something bad would happen to her.  You know the saying, you reap what you sew.

The plot twists in this story Yesterday Was A Long Time Ago made you eager to keep reading wanting to know what happened next. This storyline has a few hidden gems of wisdom and nuggets one could take away with them in real life situations. At the end of the day, trust your heart and trust the love of true unconditional love. This was a beautiful love story that had a beautiful happy ending. Great job Selena you have a new fan of your work. The writing style was perfect... I visualized the characters as I read through the story.

Book Review -No Kissing by Toni Larue

I truly love reading the stories by Toni Larue.  Her latest novel titled No Kissing will have you falling over and the two twist will have you rubbing your heading and smiling.  The story center around best selling author in the Bay area name Langton Pennington, Josephine, and Leila.

https://www.amazon.com/No-Kissing-Toni-Larue/dp/1515242471/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1507602459&sr=1-1&keywords=toni+larue

The story opens with Leila plotting against an counselor on campus to pay her tuition but that takes a turn that lands her in the triangle with Langton Pennington and Josephine.  The affair that takes place has an amazing twist that I didn't suspect with the characters.  I love how the author takes us on the journey of the many affairs of Langton who needed inspiration for his stories with other women.  His relationship with his wife Josephine was a love hate that had you cheering for one of the spouses.

Just when you thought the scandal was over, the author throws a plot twist that was so big that I gasp.  You will not believe the dynamic team was out to inspire the author to write another best-seller but did not plan on him departing.  No Kissing has twists that will keep you turning the pages and the very last chapter will leave your jaw dropping shock.  Without spoiling it, I strongly recommend hat you pick up your copy of No Kissing.  Toni Larue has done an outstanding job with this mystery  drama filled story with plot twist that will knock you out your seat.

Book Review -Abuse of Discretion by Pamela Samuels Young

In the latest novel by Pamela Samuels Young, titled Abuse of Discretion takes on the challenges of sexting and addresses child trafficking.  The story unfolds around young Graylin Alexander and Kennedy Carlyle for the sexting. The author gives her readers a look at cases from juvenile courtroom.   While she addresses another story that deals with child trafficking which is serious today that centers around a prisoner who steal runs his operation from Federal prison calls himself "The Shepard" and Dre who is seeking revenge for the kidnapping of his niece Brianna.

https://www.amazon.com/Abuse-Discretion-Dre-Thomas-Book-ebook/dp/B073TZXXNC/ref=la_B0032RQC0U_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1507567611&sr=1-1

I was proud to see how she took a real life issues and circumstances that most parents don't educate their children about to help protect them when it comes to taking and sending pictures of themselves naked or half nudity.  Teenagers today don't understand the ramifications of sexting let along being charged with possession of child pornography. Most importantly, I don't think parents understand sexting and monitor their children's social media like prosecuting attorney Sullivan in the story.  After reading this story, you will want to sit down with your kids and have a serious talk about sexting and the law that could find themselves in this same situation as Graylin.

The story addresses child trafficking but from the kidnapper perspective and how someone who might be locked behind bars can still have outside connections that allow him to continue running his operation from the inside of prison walls.  I believe the author was trying to make a point when she included the child trafficking with the sexting between kids.  As I followed the story, I took that the result of a child sending pictures of nudity via social media or to friends in innocence can end up in a pedophile or child traffickers hands that will place them in danger.

This story is long and well worth every page to get the point across about sexting, the law regarding sexting between kids, how it's treated as child pornography, distribution of child pornography, ect.  This story can be an example for students and parents.  I strongly recommend parents and their kids read Abuse of Discretion.  I am a new fan of her work and will definitely read more of her books.  I love her style writing and how she takes real life circumstances to make a great point that will educate and have an impact on her readers.
